Bitdefender is one of the top Mac antivirus program. It has a high rate of malware detection as well as a variety of useful security features. The program does not come without faults.
The default interface is easy-to-navigate and groups features into 3 categories: Privacy, Protection and Utilities. The Protection tab is focused on the features you would expect from an antivirus suite, such as real-time scanning, firewall monitoring and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab provides ways to stay safe on internet, including a secure web browser that runs websites inside a sandbox in order to prevent malware from infecting your normal browser. The Utilities tab includes optimization tools and an application that shreds files using a unique algorithm to render them unrecoverable even if they have been deleted.
Premium plans also include a password manager and an option known as «Anti-Tracker» which can block websites from tracking you too often. The program also offers a vulnerability scan that can detect outdated software as well as weak passwords and Windows updates that haven’t yet been applied. It also provides a quick custom scan that only takes five minutes, which is much faster than other competitors such as Norton and TotalAV.
The only downside of the app is that it takes an incredibly long time to install, which can frustrate users who are eager to get started. The «Reveal in the Finder» feature of the app isn’t working. This is an odd choice for an antivirus application which competes with other products that can do the same with just a few clicks.
